Educational Resources
    The Cystic Fibrosis Center of Chicago
is committed to providing educational
    resources to those affected by cystic fibrosis as well as to the general community. 
    Through our partnership with The Cystic Fibrosis Institute, we offer an Annual
    Educational Retreat featuring nationally known experts and addressing many issues
    relative to cystic fibrosis for those with CF as well as their caregivers.

                                              HANS WESSEL AWARD

   
At The Cystic Fibrosis Institute’s inaugural Educational Retreat in 2006, the Hans
    Wessel Award was created to honor Dr. Wessel’s tireless and lifetime commitment
    to the CF community. The first recipient of the award was David Orenstein, the
    Director of the Palumbo Cystic Fibrosis Center in Pittsburgh and author of Cystic
    Fibrosis A Guide for
the Patient and Family.

    At the 2007 Educational Retreat, Maureen Garvey, Nurse Coordinator of The Cystic
    Fibrosis Center of Loyola University was the honored recipient of the Hans Wessel
    Award. In recognition of his dedication to those with CF, Claude Prestidge MD
    received
the 2008 Hans Wessel Award. In support of its vital mission, the 2009
    recipient of the Hans Wessel Award was the Make-A-Wish Foundation. At the
    2010 Educational Retreat, Carolyn Utech, LCSW received the Hans Wessel Award
    in honor of her lifelong committment to those affected by CF.

The Cystic Fibrosis Center of Chicago publishes
    bimonthly Newsletters providing new and cutting edge
    information
regarding cystic fibrosis.

    Additional Programs
   

    Other educational programs include training the next generation of practitioners. 
    The Cystic Fibrosis Center of Chicago has a summer internship program for
    medical students who desire experience in CF care. Dr. Boas is also actively
    involved in teaching cystic fibrosis care to general pediatricians, family medicine
    physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals. This
    is accomplished in many ways including lectures to medical staffs in the Chicago
    area as well as nationally. See a summary of Dr. Boas' teaching experience.
   
   
The Cystic Fibrosis Center of Chicago hosted An Evening With Boomer
    Esiason. 
The former NFL great Mr. Esiason spoke about his personal experiences
    with cystic fibrosis and at the driving force behind his creation of the Boomer
    Esiason Foundation. All those who attended found inspiration in the words and
    message he conveyed.
